Section 232 Import Duties on Semiconductors and their Derivative Products
The purpose of this message is to notify you about a recent Presidential Proclamation. On January 14, 2026, the President of the United States issued the proclamation, “Adjusting Imports of Semiconductors, Semiconductor Manufacturing Equipment, and Their Derivative Products into the United States.” Pursuant to Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962, this proclamation imposes a 25 percent tariff on certain advanced computing chips. This tariff does not apply to chips that are imported to support the buildout of the U.S. technology supply chain and strengthen domestic manufacturing capacity for semiconductor derivatives.
